Course Summary

In this 45-minute workshop you will learn the science and kinesiology of dynamic stability for play, with performing arts medicine training tips to prevent injury and enhance performance. Learn how we can train like athletes with: warm-up concepts; dynamic stability; posture of the trunk, upper extremity, & hand; structured practice & rest; cool-down & recovery; and cross training.

Misty Austin

Dr. Misty launched Performance Art Athletics LLC in 2016. After seeing a multitude of preventable injuries among artistic athletics she felt a moral obligation to create a service that would empower individuals with safe science based movement. Misty is a passionate and well qualified instructor & physical therapist. Full-time Misty works as a sports & performing arts physical therapist, and is well versed in treating a wide range of professional & amateur performers including: dancers, musicians, vocalists, acrobats, puppeteers, & artistic athletes. She graduated from the University of Queensland Australia with a master’s in physiotherapy, her education additionally includes a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, a doctorate in hand & upper extremity therapy, comprehensive mat & equipment Pilates certification; with expertise & extensive training in manual therapy. With 17 years of experience as a fitness trainer she has dedicated her life to health, healing, & fitness. She loves fitness and believes it should be safe & enjoyable to work out; for fun she loves instructing pole fitness, dancing, and training aerial arts.
